End of class survey
We've been taking feedback on individual lectures but we are now seeking broader feedback on things we can improve for the remainder of this semester.  Please hang on the the link to "edit your responses" so you can update them.

Coming into this class, how much background did you have in design and usability?
Programming Background
Coming into this course, how much background did you have in programming/software engineering generally?
Web Background
Coming into this course, how much background did you have in HTML/CSS/JS?

Which of the following classes had you taken *before* enrolling in this class?
Coreqs
Which of the following classes did you take *while* taking this class?
Intended Education Goals
What were your educational goals or other reasons for taking this class?

Expectation Explanation

Unexpected Learning
Did you learn things that you consider important that you were *not* expecting to learn?
Missing Content
Was there stuff you wanted or expected to learn in this course that you did not?
Unimportant Content
Was there stuff stuff taught in this course that didn't seem worth the time?
Workload
How would you assess the overall workload of this class?
very easy
very difficult

Content Density
Do you believe that we could have decreased the workload while teaching the same amount?  If so, how?
Content ordering
This course covers two relatively distinct types of content: design principles and methods, and the web technology stack. We chose to interleave the two. Did this work well for you? Would you have preferred to learn all the design principles (and do homework involving design only) before diving into the web technologies and actually building things? Or perhaps the opposite?   What arrangement of the material would work best for you?
Content Balance
This course aimed for a 50/50 split between teaching design and implementation.  What split would you have considered ideal?
0% Design, all implementation
100% Design, no implementation
Clear selection
Design Only?
Please discuss your answers above.   How interested would you be in a full course that taught only design, HTML/CSS, and application prototyping with paper and Figma, and never covered JS or gave you a chance to implement your applications?
Implementation Worth it?
Conversely, how much did it feel frustrating/a struggle to try to implement your designs with the limited exposure to JS that we gave you?   Was it worth it?
Hypothetical Split
Suppose we had split this course into two half-semester courses, the first covering the design material and the second implementation (with the first half as prereq).  Would you have preferred this?  Would you have taken both halves or only the first?
Time allocation
In the "1 unit equals 1 hour of time" model, how do you think the units of the class should be divided between lectures, studio, and homework (make answers sum to 12)?   Note: watching video lectures, like textbook reading, should be seen as part of homework/class prep.

Live Lectures
Did you frequently attend live lectures (in person or online) or did you watch recordings?  Do you find value in participating in live lectures, or would recorded lectures be just as good?  Should we switch to two weekly live lectures?
Live Lectures on Design versus Web Stack
We devoted most live lectures to design topics, leaving most web stack material to recordings.  Was this the right choice or would you recommend something different?
Lecture feedback
Do you have any general feedback on the lectures?
Studio Feedback
Do you have any general feedback on the studios?  What is the right balance in studio between design (and critique) versus work time for code and implementation?
Missing Content
Is there material that we should have taught but did not (or not enough)?  Material you needed for the homework, or that was important for your goals?
Reading material
How effective were the slides as "textbook" reading material/reference?   Would you value some kind of textbook or other reading materials?  What kind?   Would you use them if available?
Office Hours
What role did office hours play for you?  Were they critical?  Unnecessary?   For what kinds of things did you need office hours, that you didn't get from lecture or studio?
Effect
Did this class influence your future plans for courses or career?  If so, how?
Everything Else
What else should we do to make this course as valuable as possible for students with interest in application design?
Missing Questions
What questions(s) should we have asked but didn't?
